What is plasterboard?

Plasterboard (gypsum board) is a widely used construction material for interior walls and ceiling systems in modern buildings.

Industrial applications

  • Residential buildings
  • Commercial buildings
  • Hospitals and schools
  • Dry construction systems

Why it is a continuous process industry?

Plasterboard manufacturing is a continuous industrial process requiring precise control of raw materials, chemistry, and mechanical systems.

  • Natural or synthetic gypsum
  • Paper (or sometimes called Cardboard) - front and back
  • Water
  • Chemical additives - dry & liquid

3.1 Gypsum Calcination Process

Raw gypsum is converted into hemihydrate form under controlled temperature and pressure conditions using rotary kiln, vertical or other types of kilns.

3.2 Dry & Wet Material Preparing System

Storage, dosing, and conveying systems ensure precise raw material feeding into the production line.
Wet material preparing system includes foam generator that produces foam with stable quality.

3.3 Slurry Preparation System

Gypsum, water, dry & wet materials are mixed to form a homogeneous slurry with controlled consistency.
Homogeneity of the slurry is crucial factor effecting whole production process and production cost. Because of this type of mixer, its capacity and its design plays important role.

3.4 Forming station

The slurry is placed between paper layers to form continuous gypsum board structure.
Slurry, after placing from mixer into two layers of papers, passes through vibrating table and form-press unit where gypsum board takes its shape.

3.5 Vibrating Table System

Vibration removes air bubbles and ensures uniform density distribution across the board.

3.6 Form-press unit

Form-press unit is the machine where plasterboard is shaped. Plasterboard thickness and its edge shape is given in this machine.

3.7 Setting Belt

Gypsum crystallization begins and the board gains structural strength.

3.8 Cutting System - KNIFE

Continuous boards are cut into required length with high precision.

3.9 Dryer

Multi-zone dryers remove excess moisture and stabilize board structure.

3.10 Heat exchanger

Heat exchanger is the unit where the heat is recovered in order to reduce the production cost.

3.10 Stacking and Packaging

Finished boards are automatically stacked and prepared for storage or shipment.

A turnkey factory includes engineering design, equipment supply, installation, commissioning, and training services.

  • - Process engineering
  • - Equipment manufacturing
  • - Plant layout design
  • - Automation systems
  • -Edge cracking issues
  • -Density variation
  • -Paper bonding failure
  • -Board deformation

6. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How is plasterboard manufactured?

It is produced through a continuous process of mixing, forming, setting, drying, and finishing gypsum boards.

What is a turnkey plasterboard factory?

It is a complete production plant delivered ready for operation including engineering and equipment supply.

What is the role of drying in production?

Drying removes excess moisture and ensures mechanical stability of the board.

Dosaging and metering - how they effect production cost?

Dosaging and metering is important in the production. Production cost can only be controlled with precise and accurate dosaging and metering system
